Theme: "Natural Rubber Industry: Challenges and Policy Options in the 21st Century"

It is important for policy makers involved in the rubber industry to understand the development of the natural rubber market. During the last 22 years of this century, the world faced many challenges. The pandemic has led to a slowdown in supply and demand for several raw materials, including natural rubber. The war between Russia and Ukraine has caused energy prices to soar. This created disruptions in supply chains, fuelled inflation, resulted in tighter monetary policies, strengthened the US dollar and created fears of a recession. This affected the supply and demand of natural rubber equally. At this juncture, concerted action by countries along with appropriate domestic policy formulation is essential for the sustainable growth and development of the rubber industry. In this context, the conference seeks to provide insights into developments in the global rubber industry to enable policy makers to formulate appropriate policies for a sustainable natural rubber sector.
