ANRPC Release Natural Rubber Trends & Statistics, October 2016

Nov 03, 2016
The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) is happy to release its Natural Rubber Trends & Statistics, October 2016.

Based on figures covering the period up to October 2016, total supply of natural rubber from ANRPC member countries is expected to post a near-zero growth (0.4%) during 2016. This is the third continuous year that the supply presents low performance. Following 5.0% growth attained in 2013, supply fell 1.9% in 2014 and rose only marginally (0.8%) in 2015. But, consumption of natural rubber in ANRPC member countries, accounting for 65% of the global demand, is expected to increase by 4.5% during 2016.  In sum, global natural rubber industry is currently driven by favourable supply-demand fundamentals.

Coming to natural rubber market, prices have marginally improved during October 2016 as compared to September 2016 in key physical markets. Along with the favourable supply-demand fundamentals, a couple of non-fundamental factors helped NR market to gain momentum during October 2016. Uptrend in crude oil price from end of October through mid-October and sharp devaluation of Japanese Yen from the end of September have sent positive sentiments to natural rubber market. Looking ahead, supply-demand fundamentals are expected to stay favourable to price in short-term. However, market sentiments are likely to be influenced by non-fundamental factors including developments in crude oil market, trends in currency rates and response of speculative funds to possible outcome of the forthcoming U.S. Presidential election.

This issue of Natural Rubber Trends and Statistics present supply and demand for natural rubber during the period up to October 2016 and anticipated figures of the year 2016 covering all ANRPC member countries.  It also gives a closer picture of current developments in natural rubber market and a short-term outlook.

I am happy to share with users of this publication that the Ninth ANRPC Annual Rubber Conference and the Second ANRPC-Public Private Meet, hosted by the Government of India, in Guwahati (Assam), on 17 and 18 October 2016, gave opportunity for meaningful interaction among rubber industry leaders, policy-makers and analysts from 14 countries. Government of Vietnam will host the Annual Rubber Conference and Private-Public Meet to be held in the last quarter of 2017.  Meeting of ANRPC Executive Committee held at the same venue on 20 and 21 October 2016 recommended improvements to be brought to this publication’s coverage and content. They will be implemented in the forthcoming issues.
