Uncertainty persists despite EU-US trade deal, says ECB’s Lagarde
European Central Bank president Christine Lagarde said the US' plans for sector-specific levies on pharmaceutical goods and semiconductors remain unclear.
> Lagarde stated the US-EU trade deal eased, but "certainly not eliminated" global uncertainty, with effective US tariff rates at 12-16%.
> The ECB anticipates a slowdown in euro zone activity in Q3 2025, despite a strong start, attributing resilience to tariff-induced distortions.
> New ECB forecasts in mid-September will consider the EU-US trade deal's implications, following lowered inflation forecasts for 2025 to 2%.
