Ringgit rises as US plans new tariffs
The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar on Monday, lifted by concerns over the United States’ plan to impose tariffs on three major trading partners from Aug 1, 2025.

KUALA LUMPUR: The ringgit opened higher against the US dollar on Monday, lifted by concerns over the United States' plan to impose tariffs on three major trading partners from Aug 1, 2025.
Over the weekend, United States President Donald Trump announced plans to slap a 30 per cent tariff on goods from the European Union and Mexico, and 35 per cent on Canadian products.
At 8am, the ringgit strengthened to 4.2405/2635 against the greenback, from Friday's close of 4.2475/2525.
