  • ANRPC Releases Monthly NR Statistical Report April 2023

The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) releases the Monthly NR Statistical Report, April 2023. The global NR production posted a much slower growth at 1.5%, year-to-year, amounting to 896,000 tons in April. While the global demand of NR witnessed a much rapid growth at 2.7%, year-to-year, amounting to 1.241 million tons. Due to the characteristics of NR market, which is relatively sensitive to the market sentiments, the positive market fundamentals were offset by elevated risks around global financial markets, high borrowing costs from interest rate hikes, impact from the prolonged conflicts between Russia and Ukraine, and stubborn inflation amid a projected slowdown recovery of global economy in 2023. The latest trends of the global NR, including price movements in key physical markets, are shown below. The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) releases the Monthly NR Statistical Report, March 2023. In view of the recent developments and release of the latest outlook by International Monetary Fund (IMF), ANRPC has updated its outlook of global natural rubber (NR) market for this year‒ global production of NR is now projected to grow by 2.7% (0.1% higher than previously reported) reaching 14.916 million tons, while a contraction in global demand for NR by 0.4% going down to 14.912 million tons is expected. During March, global NR production fell 26.1% to 967,000 tons compared to last month, while global demand for NR is estimated to grow by 7.9% to 1.306 million tons during the same reference period. In spite of such positive market fundamentals in NR market, physical and futures market of NR were volatile attributed to a series of events in the international arena, such as the regional banking crisis in US and Swiss Bank, Credit Suisse, geopolitical tensions, bearish outlook in crude oil, continuous interest rate hike to beat inflation, and the strength of exporting currencies. The latest trends of the global NR, including price movements in key physical markets, are shown below. • ANRPC releases Monthly NR Statistical Report, December 2022

The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) releases the Monthly NR Statistical Report, December 2022. Based on the preliminary estimates from Member Governments, the world production of natural rubber (NR) registered 0.1% growth to 1.397 million tons during December 2022, the slowest growth in production of the year. Conversely, the world demand for NR grew at a faster pace at 2.5% to 1.3111 million tons during the same reference period. The physical and futures markets also performed better as rubber prices inched higher than in previous months. The ups and downs in 2022 from Covid-19 pandemic and geopolitical tension between Russia-Ukraine continued to pose challenges for global economy as we unshed in 2023. Economic slowdowns can be observed in some of the top economies in the beginning of this year. Unsurprisingly, most economists are sharing the views that 2023 will be a more challenging year than 2022 in terms of the world economy and trade due to the tightening of monetary policy by most central banks, rising cost of living and debt distress, disruptions caused by geopolitical conflicts, and a potential risk of another wave of Covid-19 pandemic. As a result, the World Bank has further slashed its estimate for world economic growth to 1.7% for 2023 as compared to the 3% released 6 months ago. As highlighted in the “Message from Secretary General” on our ANRPC homepage, however, I remained hopeful that the steady growth in electric vehicle, healthcare, buildings and construction sectors will continue to drive the demand for natural rubber in the years to come. And I look forward to riding through these challenges with our Member Governments and stakeholders of our rubber industry toward the light at the end of the tunnel. Meanwhile, on a sidenote, I would like to take this opportunity to wish all who are celebrating the Lunar New Year a prosperous year ahead and a joyful reunion with your family members. In November 2022, the world production recorded a 2.7% growth to 1.426 million tons as compared to 1.389 million tons in last November. While world demand is estimated at 1.301 million tons, increased 0.6% from 1.294 million tons during the same reference period. In the physical rubber markets, most rubber have inched lower in November 2022, except latex-in-bulk in Kuala Lumpur. The daily price of latex-in-bulk averaged around US$1.04 per kg in November 2022, up 3% from the previous month. • ANRPC Releases Monthly NR Statistical Report, August & September 2022

The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) releases the Monthly NR Statistical Report, August & September 2022. During August and September 2022, the accumulated global production of natural rubber (NR) recorded an increase of 71,000 tons to 2.693 million tons against the same period last year. While the global demand expanded 85,000 tons to 2.456 million tons during the same reference period. The excess supply during this period may have contributed to the price movements in rubber markets in physical and futures markets, other than the external factors such as slump in brent crude price and weaken global economy outlook. Following the interest rates hikes by Federal Reserve recently, it has also signaled other hikes in the remaining two meetings till end of the year with their strong determination to battle the stubborn inflation in US. This has led to the appreciation of US dollar against the currencies of emerging countries. Given the stronger US dollar, it also made the rubber cheaper as most major producing countries’ currencies have lost strength against it. We appreciate and value the feedback given by members and subscribers who had taken the online survey on Proposed Sustainable Price Mechanism during March 2022 to July 2022. The findings of this online survey have reported to the respective Committee. Again, the incessant support and cooperation extended by the esteemed users, statistical correspondents, and stakeholders are once again gratefully acknowledged. • ANRPC releases Monthly NR Statistical Report July 2022

The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) releases the Monthly NR Statistical Report, July 2022. The global production of natural rubber (NR) is estimated to expand by 3.9%, year-on-year, to 1.283 million tons; while the global demand is expected to grow faster at 8%, year-on-year, to 1.266 million tons during July 2022. During the same reference period, the prices in NR market have edged lower as compared to June 2022 amid a gloomy global economic outlook, as released by International Monetary Fund (IMF) at 3.2% for 2022, lower than 0.4% point in corresponding to its earlier forecast in April 2022. Despite concerns on the slowdown of China’s economy, the Government has introduced various measures including Central Bank cuts interest rates to stimulate the economic recovery from lockdowns and worsening of real estate crisis. While the China’s auto sales have further improved in July 2022 supported by lower sales tax and incentives for electric vehicles and also anticipating more sales in the coming months too. This may lead to a better-than-expected recovery in the NR market. Moreover, the NR market, especially NR exporting countries are benefiting from the relatively strong US dollar as it encourages more exports. This is last notice for the online survey gathering feedback from rubber stakeholders in the value chain of NR industry for the proposed Sustainable Price Mechanism (SPM). It targets to safeguard the interests of stakeholders in the NR industry and provide a sustainable NR industry in the entire value chain for long run. I urge for your participation in the online survey for providing feedback on this proposed mechanism by this month. • ANRPC Releases Monthly NR Statistical Report June 2022

The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) releases the Monthly NR Statistical Report, June 2022. Based on the estimates given by member governments up to June 2022, the outlook of natural rubber (NR) market is expected to improve further during the year 2022, in production and consumption. During June 2022, the global production is recorded at 1.113 million tons, up 3.8% from the same period in 2021; while the global consumption projected a faster growth at 5.8% amounting to 1.206 million tons during the same reference period. Despite the favourable market fundamental in NR market, the market sentiments were driven by various factors namely the resurgence of Covid-19 cases in China, recovery outlook from the rising raw material and energy costs, worries over inflationary pressure and interest hikes from tightening monetary policy imposed by central banks, uncertainties from geopolitical conflicts between Russia and Ukraine. ANRPC has started an online survey to gather feedback from rubber stakeholders in the value chain of NR industry on the proposed Sustainable Price Mechanism (SPM). The said proposed mechanism targets to tackle prevailing low prices and safeguard the interests of stakeholders in the NR industry. It’s ultimately to provide a sustainable NR industry in the entire value chain for long run. • ANRPC releases Monthly NR Statistical Report, May 2022

The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) releases the Monthly NR Statistical Report, May 2022. The global supply of natural rubber (NR) has further improved to 991,000 tons in May 2022 and resulted to a lower supply shortage to 198,000 tons with global demand estimated at 1.189 million tons during the same reference period. Although NR markets for both futures and physical market have posted an upward trend for May 2022, but the average price across key markets have inched lower as compared to previous month. This is because these markets have weighed on the impact of lockdown of China and the prolonged geopolitical conflicts between Ukraine and Russia despite favourable market fundamental as per estimates given up to May 2022. • ANRPC Releases Monthly NR Statistical Report March 2022

The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) releases Monthly NR Statistical Report, March 2022. The world production of natural rubber (NR) is recorded at 954,000 tonnes while world consumption amounted to 1.288 million tonnes during March 2022. While the tight supply of raw material may be expected in the coming months as most producing countries entering to off-tapping season, the NR market remains positive. The United Nation Conference Trade and Development (UNCTAD) has recently slashed its the projection of global economic growth for 2022 by 1% to 2.6% in early March 2022. This downward revision is following from the conflicts of Russia-Ukraine. As a result, this may influence the prospect growth of global NR industry during 2022, i.e., the microchips shortage may be exacerbated in the global automobile industry as Russia bans its chips material from exporting, sanctions imposed on Russia which may affect to the trade displacement and more. While countries have taken different approaches to manage the Covid-19 pandemic for its nation and economy’s sake. An effective control Covid-19 management is still key to boost the economy after hit by pandemic. Else, uncertainty still poses on its economic recovery. The incessant support and cooperation extended by the esteemed users, statistical correspondents, and stakeholders are once again gratefully acknowledged. • ANRPC Releases Monthly NR Statistical Report, January -February 2022 (Joint issue)

The Association of Natural Rubber Producing Countries (ANRPC) releases the Monthly NR Statistical Report, January & February 2022 (Joint Issue). The global outlook of natural rubber (NR) market stays positive in 2022. The world production is expected to grow by 1.9% at 14.107 million tonnes while the world consumption is expected a moderate growth at 1.2% to 14.232 million tonnes during 2022. Despite the positive sentiments in NR market, it also faces several challenges which may hinder its growth. In the supply side, it is heavily affected by adverse climate, labour shortage in NR producing countries amid the rising spread of Covid-19 variant, Omicron cases around the globe and off-tapping season which may aggravate the supply tightness of raw material in the coming months. While good prospect in NR demand in view of the strong demand from healthcare sector and positive auto sale growth in major economies. Other global events may influence the NR market such as surge in crude oil prices, geopolitical crisis, reopening border and its economy under endemic arrangement, global supply chain disruption caused by delayed shipping schedule, global shortage of semiconductor chipsets and healthcare risk such as Covid-19 development. Countries have taken different approaches to manage the Covid-19 pandemic for its nation and economy’s sake. However, an effective Covid-19 management is still key to sustain the economic recovery from the post-pandemic, otherwise, it will still pose uncertainties of adverse impact to its recovery.
